Welp! It’s the end of the weekend. I’m not crying, you are.

Companies opting for AI certification to avoid lawsuits 🙄

Rabbit RI proving the future is now, not tomorrow!

Did you figure out if yesterday’s pic was AI or real? 🧐

Here is what you need to know about AI today.

Read time: 6 minutes

AI CERTIFICATION

As legislation around AI heats up, certification programs have been popping up to keep companies in check!

One standout is Fairly Trained, founded by Ed Newton Rex. They’re all about giving AI companies a gold star for playing nice with copyright.

First badge: Licensed Model certification, which goes to companies that get a thumbs-up for using copyrighted training data with permission.

No fair use shortcuts here!

Ed had enough of AI “exploiting creators”, so he left Stability AI and started Fairly Trained

They’ve already given the nod to nine generative AI companies working wonders in image, music and voice generation.

Like Beatoven.ai, Boomy, BRIA.ai and more.

Training AI models with copyrighted data has caused some legal storms, with artists and authors suing left and right.

The big shots at the New York Times even took OpenAI and Microsoft to court over GPT models.

There’s a bright side

From another perspective, proposed legislation might make AI companies spill the beans on where they get their data.

Fairly Trained is leading the charge to keep things above broad.

Our View:

This is a good step to lessen the animosity between content creators and artificial intelligence. In the end, the world can’t stop the evolution of AI, but can mould it to fit its standards and rules.

Are you with companies taking that certification program?

AI IMAGE OR REAL? - THE RESULTS

Yesterday we asked you to vote on an image and guess whether it was a real photo or an AI-generated image.

Did you get transported to the Netherlands’ countryside?

Here’s what you said:

60% of you said AI

40% of you said Real

It was…

AI!

Did we make it too easy?

NEW TECH

The Rabbit R1, the startup sensation from CES 2024 has rocked the tech world by selling 40,000 pre-orders of its sleek $199 gadget just in 8 days!

The company has also given more details about how the device functions.

What makes it a must-have?

Well the Rabbit RI is not your good ol’ average gadget, it’s powered by the Rabbit OS, a virtual assistant that acts like a universal controller for your favourite apps.

It’s half the size of an iPhone, rocking a 2.88-inch touchscreen, scrolling navigation wheel and a rotating camera, which feed into on-board AI that can generate output far faster than ChatGPT can.

New details

Rabbit RI has teamed up with Perplexity to give its RI users a built-in search engine that delivers “live up to date answers without any knowledge cutoff”.

It gets even better folks! The first 100,000 RI buyers score a one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, usually costing $20 a month.

That means access to the latest and greatest LLMs, including the mighty GPT-4!

In a nutshell, Rabbit RI is your pocket-sized powerhouse for all things apps, from messaging to music control to online shopping.

With Perplexity on board, it’s levelling up the game by combining research with top-notch LLMs, ready to take giants like Google and Bing.

Our View:

This gadget looks awesome - but can how necessary is it? How long until our phones can do all this just as well, if not better?
