Mindstream is so much more than a newsletter. It’s our journey, a mission we, Matt Village and Adam Biddlecombe, set out on together.
Let’s go back in time. Waaaay back. Okay, not that far.
It’s the 8th of May, 2023. We’d dreamed of starting a business together since we were 15, and we had failed a few times along the way. Now both 25, we told ourselves it was time to go big or go home.
Matt was working as a copywriter at a small marketing agency, and Adam was a salesman for electronic components.
Adam couldn’t stop thinking about the newsletter model, Matt loved writing, and we were both blown away by AI and how fast it was moving.
But we realised there was no single source for keeping up to date on AI. We decided we would become just that. A place where anybody can come to help understand and stay on top of AI.
That day, we named our project Mindstream (with a little help from ChatGPT), bought the domain, and set ourselves an unbreakable rule: We would publish every single day, without fail, starting on June 1st.
Over the next few weeks, Adam started creating content on LinkedIn while Matt built the website and designed the newsletter. When June 1st arrived, we hit send to five subscribers, two of whom were… ourselves.
From there, we juggled Mindstream alongside our full-time jobs. Matt wrote the newsletter every evening, Adam worked on growing our audience, and slowly it began to catch on.
By the end of September, we’d grown from a handful of readers to 5,000 subscribers. That was when we realised Mindstream needed more than our spare time.
In October 2023, we made a joint decision to quit our jobs and go all in.
Going full-time unlocked everything. We began selling ads, brought in early investment, and used it to grow our reach and hire a small but mighty support team, based all around the world.
Around that time, we began talking with the AutoGPT newsletter, which had more than 100,000 subscribers. What began as simple strategy sharing became something much more.
They had built incredible reach, but struggled with consistency. We had the opposite: a rock-solid daily publishing engine, but we needed more scale. It felt like the perfect match.
By combining forces, we took Mindstream from a fast-growing project to a newsletter with real global presence.
AutoGPT officially became part of Mindstream in December 2023. It was the moment we proved our model could scale. Our audience multiplied overnight, our brand became stronger, and the foundation was laid for the growth that followed.
In January 2024, after writing Mindstream for over 200 days in a row, Matt got some much-needed support. We welcomed Maria to our writing team. Based in Lebanon, Maria added to our global crew, which now spanned 6 countries!
Ads were now selling out months in advance, customers were happy, and readers were engaged. We kept to our mission: making AI easy and entertaining for our readers.
Then came a turning point: HubSpot reached out to buy advertising space. The biggest client we’d ever had. Mind blown.
Their campaigns performed so well that they became a regular partner.
Not long after, they asked the big question: Would we consider joining them?
Mindstream, the AI newsletter inspired by HubSpot Media’s The Hustle, had been asked to join that very same team. This was the most full-circle moment possible for us.
The months that followed were marked by due diligence and negotiations, all while we continued to publish every single day. We didn’t tell a soul — not even our families - in case it all fell apart.
On October 16th, 2024, we signed the deal.
Mindstream officially became part of HubSpot Media!
Less than 18 months after launch, the successful business we’d both dreamed of since our teens had turned into reality. As part of the deal, HubSpot also agreed to relocate Maria to the UK.
While we were celebrating this milestone, things in Lebanon got… complicated. Maria kept writing as bombs dropped on her country, while Matt and Adam would video call her every day. With airports closed, it was unclear whether she would ever make it to the UK.
Finally, in February 2025, the situation eased enough for her to move. Our small writing team was finally together.
On June 1st, 2025, we celebrated two years of Mindstream. In that time, we’ve grown from five readers to a global community, joined forces with one of the biggest names in tech, and built the life we always imagined. And yes, we still haven’t missed a single day of publishing.
As we write this, it's October 2025, and we’ve been with HubSpot for an entire year. And what a year it’s been.
Mindstream is bigger and better than ever. We now work with some of the most talented people in media, for an AI-first company changing the way we work.
None of this would have been possible without our amazing community of readers. A few of you have been there since the very beginning. Some of you joined today.
Whenever you jumped on the Mindstream bandwagon - know that without your support, reading, sharing, commenting - none of this would have happened. So thank you - and keep reading!
There’s much more to come - and if the future is anything like as crazy as the story so far, you’ll want to stick around…
