NVIDIA X META

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang and Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently sat down together and shared their views on artificial intelligence.

Both CEOs highlighted the crucial role of open-source initiatives in advancing AI.

Meta, a leader in this domain, has integrated AI across its platforms and released open-source models like Llama 3.1.

This latest model, with 405 billion parameters, required training on over 16,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, representing a significant investment in resources.

Zuckerberg envisions a future where platforms like Facebook and Instagram function as unified AI models, integrating various content types and systems.

He stresses the importance of collaboration for further AI advancements.

The key stats:

  • Meta's Llama 3.1 AI model has 405 billion parameters and was trained on 16,000 GPUs.

  • NVIDIA’s Maxine AI platform updates include Maxine 3D and Audio2Face-2D for immersive telepresence.

  • Future AI will involve more integrated and versatile interactions.

Education’s next big thing?

Huang foresees AI significantly strengthening human productivity, with real-time image generation and seamless human-AI collaboration.

Nvidia’s latest updates to the Maxine AI platform, including Maxine 3D and Audio2Face-2D, aim to create immersive telepresence experiences.

Zuckerberg is enthusiastic about combining AI with augmented reality eyewear, in partnership with Luxottica, to revolutionise education, entertainment and work.

Huang discussed the future of AI, moving from turn-based interactions to complex, multi-option simulations, making AI more powerful and versatile.

As AI technology evolves, insights from industry leaders at SIGGRAPH 2024 show a future where AI assistants are as common as websites and social media accounts, with digital humans becoming more sophisticated and engaging.

The bromance we didn’t know we needed.

OPENAI

OpenAI has begun rolling out ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, offering GPT-4o’s hyperrealistic audio responses.

Initially, only a select group of ChatGPT Plus users will have access, with a full rollout expected by autumn 2024.

When first introduced in May, GPT-4o’s voice amazed many with its lifelike quality, resembling Scarlett Johansson.

However, Johansson has since denied giving permission and pursued legal action.

OpenAI has removed the demo voice and postponed the feature for safety improvements.

The new voice feature, currently limited to alpha users, uses a single multimodal model for faster, natural conversations, and can interpret emotional tones like sadness or excitement.

The full feature includes:

  • One model for quicker, realistic conversations.

  • Four preset voices, with no impersonation allowed.

  • Gradual rollout to monitor usage and avoid deepfake issues.

New voices, same GPT

OpenAI tested the voice capabilities with over 100 external tests speaking 45 languages.

A safety report is due in August.

The company has also introduced filters to block certain requests for generating music or copyrighted audio to avoid legal problems.

I’m going to miss the ones that sound like they’re straight out of a sci-fi B-movie though.
