YouTube’s new AI feature knows you’re skipping
Originally launched on web and mobile for Premium users, Jump Ahead uses AI to work out which parts of a video people tend to skip to, and lets you jump there instantly.
It’s a clever way to get straight to the good stuff without aimlessly fast-forwarding.
The feature was spotted this week on an Nvidia Shield TV, and some Reddit users say it’s now showing up on Samsung and Google TVs too.
Until now, TV users were left out, even though big screens are now the main way people watch YouTube in the US.
On phones, you double-tap to activate Jump Ahead.
But on TVs, you’ll need to press the right arrow on your remote.
In brief:
Jump Ahead skips to popular moments using AI
Now rolling out to selected TVs, including Samsung and Google TV
YouTube hasn’t confirmed the full rollout details yet
The future is dot-dot-dot
A little dot will appear on the progress bar to show the most-watched sections. Pressing the arrow again skips straight to that point.
And apparently, a message popped up saying: “Jumping over commonly skipped section.”
YouTube’s support page confirms the feature is now “available on Living Room,” but hasn’t said how fast it’s rolling out or which devices are getting it first.
So far, no formal launch announcement either.
My attention span and this feature are besties now.
