YouTube just drew a line on AI slop
YouTube started 2026 by tightening its rules around AI-generated content.
While AI remains part of the platform’s future, the company is now cracking down on low-quality, automated videos often referred to as “AI slop.”
In his annual letter, Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, said it’s becoming harder to tell what’s real versus AI-generated, especially as deepfakes spread more widely.
Since then, YouTube has removed several large channels built almost entirely on synthetic content.
A report from Kapwing shows that 16 of the top 100 AI slop channels identified in November 2025 have already been de-platformed.
In brief:
16 major AI-generated spam channels have already been removed
The affected channels earned millions through automated engagement
YouTube is relying on existing moderation tools to clean up low-quality AI content
Views without value
Those 16 channels had over 35 million subscribers, 4.7 billion lifetime views, and nearly $10 million in estimated annual earnings.
Some were fully deleted, while others remain live with their videos removed.
YouTube says it is using its existing spam and clickbait detection systems to enforce these changes.
The company has stressed that AI can still be used creatively, but not at the expense of content quality or user trust.
