YouTube is tightening its AI disclosure rules
YouTube is making its AI labels more visible across Shorts and regular videos.
For long-form videos, the “AI” label will now appear directly under the video player, above the description.
Right now, viewers have to open the description to find it.
For Shorts, the label will appear as an overlay on the video, making it much harder to miss.
YouTube says the new label format will apply to photorealistic or clearly AI-altered content.
Smaller edits, animated content, or unrealistic AI content may still only be disclosed in the expanded description.
In brief:
AI labels will now be easier to see on Shorts and regular videos.
YouTube will automatically label some AI-generated content.
Creators can correct some labels, but others will stay permanent.

The platform is also rolling out new tools to automatically detect and label AI-generated videos.
Creators still need to disclose when they use photorealistic AI, but YouTube may add the label itself if it detects major AI use.
Creators can fix labels in YouTube Studio if a video is wrongly flagged.
However, labels will stay permanent if the video was made with YouTube’s AI tools, such as Veo or Dream Screen, or if it includes metadata showing it was fully AI-generated.
YouTube says these labels will not affect monetisation or recommendations on their own.
YouTube saying “we’ll detect it ourselves” is where the plot gets SPICY.- MG
