AI FAKES

Your food wasn’t late. It was AI-delivered

A DoorDash driver has been removed from the platform after allegedly using an AI-generated image to make it look like an order had been delivered when it had not.

The incident was shared on X on 26 December by Austin-based customer Byrne Hobart.

He said the driver accepted the order, marked it as delivered almost immediately, and submitted an image showing a DoorDash bag outside what appeared to be his front door.

The photo looked… off

Hobart later shared a photo of his real door, pointing out that the two did not match.

Hobart said he does not believe the driver ever came to his home.

He suggested the image may have been created using artificial intelligence to make the delivery appear real.

He also raised the possibility that the account had been taken over, with someone attempting to claim payment for several false deliveries before being noticed.

Another user replied to the post saying the same thing had happened to them in Austin, using the same driver name.

DoorDash confirmed to Nexstar that it reviewed the incident and permanently removed the account.

Here’s what you should know:

  • The order was marked delivered using an image the customer believes was AI-generated

  • DoorDash removed the account after reviewing the case and refunded the customer

  • The incident shows how AI tools can be misused in everyday delivery services

In a statement, the company said it has zero tolerance for fraud and uses a mix of technology and human review to detect and prevent misuse.

It added that these systems are updated as new tactics appear.

Hobart later said DoorDash refunded his order and issued a credit. His food was delivered later.
