ZOOM

Your face on the call, even when you are not

Zoom is rolling out its AI-powered avatars later this month as part of a wider push into workplace AI tools.

The update also includes new AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets apps, a custom agent builder for non-technical users, and live voice translation for meetings.

The avatars, first announced last year, are designed to stand in for users when they do not want to be on camera.

Zoom says they can copy a person’s appearance, facial expressions, lip movement, and eye movement.

The company is also adding deepfake detection to help flag possible audio or video impersonation during meetings.

Zoom is also moving further into productivity software.

Its new AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets tools, which will be available in preview this spring, can create drafts, presentations, and spreadsheets using meeting transcripts and data from connected apps.

AI Companion 3.0 is now coming to Zoom’s desktop app after launching on the web in September.

Zoom said its monthly active users more than tripled year over year in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Zoom’s AI avatars are launching later this month, alongside deepfake detection.

  • AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets are set to arrive in preview this spring.

  • The company is also adding custom agents, workplace AI assistants, and developer tools.

Face card, automated

Workvivo, Zoom’s employee communication app, is also getting an AI assistant.

It will connect with tools like Slack, Salesforce, Gmail, Outlook, Asana, and Jira, so users can search across different sources in one place.

The company is also introducing custom AI agents that users can build with natural language prompts, as well as new APIs for developers covering speech, vision, and language tools.

Zoom says it is also improving chat with AI summaries and key insights, while making its AI features easier to access across desktop, mobile, and web.

They’re finally here!? They took my criticism personally. - MV
