You don’t need to code to build an agent anymore

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has launched AgentKit, a new toolkit that helps developers quickly build and deploy AI agents.

Announced at OpenAI’s Dev Day, AgentKit is meant to make creating AI agents easier, faster, and less technical, helping users go from idea to production with fewer steps.

The launch shows OpenAI’s push to get more developers on board and stay ahead of other AI companies offering similar tools for building autonomous agents.

It also came with other Dev Day news, like the ability to build apps directly inside ChatGPT, which now has 800 million weekly users.

AgentKit’s main tools include:

  • Agent Builder: A drag-and-drop system (like Canva) for designing agent logic and workflows visually.

  • ChatKit: Enables developers to integrate chat features into their own apps while maintaining their brand and design.

  • Evals for Agents: Tools to test, grade, and improve how agents perform.

  • Connector Registry: A secure panel that links agents to internal or third-party tools safely.

8 minutes to flex

To show how simple it is, OpenAI engineer Christina Huang built two working AI agents live on stage in just eight minutes.

Altman said this toolkit includes everything they wished they’d had when building their first agents.

Remember when coding used to be hard?
