Would you let AI buy your socks?

AI BROWSER OPERATOR

Opera has launched Browser Operator, an AI tool that can complete tasks on different websites.

In a demo, it was shown booking football tickets, finding socks on Walmart, and planning a trip via Booking.com.

More than just a search bar

The feature will roll out soon through Opera’s Feature Drop program, but it’s unclear if it can compare prices across multiple sites or handle broader searches.

Unlike cloud-based AI agents, Browser Operator runs directly on the device, which Opera says makes it more secure.

Users can see what the AI is doing and take control at any time.

Opera faces competition from other companies developing AI-powered browsing tools:

  • OpenAI's Operator is available to ChatGPT Pro users.

  • The Browser Company is working on Dia, a browser with AI-driven features.

  • Perplexity is launching Comet, its own AI-powered browser.

With more AI-powered browsers on the way, how they compare in real-world use remains to be seen.

Imagine telling your grandma the browser just ‘knows’ what you need. Witchcraft.
