WORDPRESS
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, has launched a new AI tool called Write Brief with AI to help bloggers write more clearly and effectively.
This tool is part of the growing trend of writing assistants from companies like Proton and Google but offers unique features specifically for WordPress users.
Write Brief with AI complements Automattic’s previous AI assistant by using text-based prompts to help bloggers shape their content.
It allows users to adjust the tone of their writing, making it more empathetic.
Currently in beta, Write Brief with AI is available for free on WordPress.com sites as part of Jetpack, a feature suite enhancing WordPress functionality.
During this initial phase, users find the tool through the Jetpack icon in the editor.
Write Brief’s key features:
Measure readability: Check how readable your writing is with a simple grade score.
Tell you about long-winded sentences. Long sentences tire readers. Write Brief with AI highlights those examples so you can break them down.
Boost your confidence: Writing needs to be strong and clear. This tool highlights words that sound uncertain, like “possibly,” “might,” or “could.”
Simplify your vocabulary: Complex words can bog down your message. The tool highlights complex words and suggests simpler alternatives, keeping your writing clear and direct.
Write less, say more
Automattic developed Write Brief with AI during an in-house hack week and seeing its success internally, decided to release it to the public.
It quickly became a favourite tool among employees, prompting the decision to make it widely available.
While ChatGPT has become a leading figure in generative AI, Automattic can leverage its extensive influence in the blogging world.
As both a key player in the self-hosted WordPress project and the commercial WordPress.com business, integrating AI into its platform could lead to widespread adoption.

AI VIDEO
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has launched Jimeng AI, a software that generates videos from text prompts.
This move puts them alongside other Chinese tech firms entering the fast-growing text-to-video AI market, also targeted by OpenAI.
Since Microsoft-backed OpenAI revealed its text-to-video model, Sora, in February, several Chinese companies have developed similar tools, making them accessible to users.
Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, is now available on the Apple App Store for Chinese users after being released on Android on July 31.
This launch comes after a series of text-to-video model releases in China.
Here’s the latest:
Part of ByteDance’s Jianying business, known for CapCut. Subscriptions start at 69 yuan ($9.65) monthly for 168 AI videos or 2,050 images.
Kuaishou released Kling AI, a text-to-video model available worldwide. Zhipu AI launched its Ying model, and Shengshu introduced the Vidu app.
Jimeng AI's App Store debut marks a big step for ByteDance's AI ambitions amid global competition.
A new frontier
ByteDance's expansion into this new technology aligns with the growing trend of AI-driven video content creation, positioning itself as a key player in this emerging market.
As more companies enter this space, the competition will likely drive further innovation and accessibility in AI-generated video technology.
Oh, look, a new contender for endless scrolling.
