AI SEARCH

ChatGPT Search, OpenAI's AI-powered web search tool, is now available to all users, not just premium subscribers.

The aim is to make it easier and faster for people to find and use online information.

ChatGPT can decide when to use the search tool or users can choose the “Search the web” option.

It provides short summaries, useful links, and extras like photos and videos.

Launched in October, this feature builds on the earlier SearchGPT prototype and uses a fine-tuned GPT-4o model.

It gives real-time updates on topics like sports, news, and stock quotes.

Key features of ChatGPT Search:

  • Live updates: Find the latest information on sports, business news, and stocks.

  • Better mobile experience: See business details, like addresses (via Apple Maps on iOS) and phone numbers, clearly organised.

  • Voice access: Use Advanced Voice Mode to get real-time web info on desktop or mobile.

Is this the end of clicks?

The tool is now quicker and can be set as your browser’s default search engine.

However, publishers are worried that AI search tools could reduce traffic to their websites.

A study found that Google’s AI Overviews alone might cut 25% of publisher traffic by focusing less on links to original pages.

OpenAI has responded by improving how ChatGPT Search selects and summarises articles, including how it uses quotes and determines what’s most relevant.

This update shows OpenAI’s commitment to making ChatGPT Search more useful while considering feedback from publishers.

Links, summaries, and no ads? This feels illegal but in a good way.
