Visa’s AI fix for credit card disputes

Your screen time isn't the only thing that’s gone up since 2019.

Credit card disputes have risen 35% in the past 6 years, with Visa processing 106 million cases globally in 2025.

To streamline this ever-growing backlog, Visa is introducing six AI-powered tools. These will expedite the dispute process, which has (for the most part) been handled manually by customer service agents.

TL;DR

  • Problem: Credit card disputes cost merchants and financial institutions billions of dollars in avoidable losses

  • Tools: Visa is introducing six new AI tools to support with all stages of the dispute process

  • Timeline: While a few features are live now, most will be integrated by late 2026

The other three tools are all about being proactive. Visa will use predictive AI for smarter case analysis, document summarization to cut down manual review time, and a unified platform to manage disputes across card networks.

When it comes to integrating AI, financial institutions were (very) early adopters. JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and BNY have been leaning into LLMs to reduce manual workflows. Now Visa is making its move.

For anyone who's ever sat on hold disputing a charge, this one's for you.
