🌍 WORLD “LONG WAY” FROM ALLIANCE ON AI
The world is a long way from reaching an international alliance on AI, says British PM Rishi Sunak. He says reaching an international agreement that would include nations like China and Russia will be really difficult.
On the benefits of AI, the PM spoke of the possibility of tackling “incurable diseases like cancer and dementia or new ways to grow crops”.
He also pointed to a recent paper estimating that it could boost GDP by 10% over the coming decade and drive up productivity.
The comments came in the context of the upcoming AI summit, which will be hosted in the UK, as Britain tries to take a lead in AI. Sunak said that only “like-minded” countries would be invited.
He said the “existential risk” of AI must be taken seriously because “there’s just a lack of understanding at this point about what the potential of these models might be”.
Sunak suggested that something like the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), which does include Russia and China, was unlikely for AI, meaning the AI arms race seems to be underway.

🇺🇸 US MILITARY INVESTING HEAVILY IN AI
The US military is betting big on AI, with plans to acquire 1,000 AI-controlled drones in the next few years. It’s a bold move that signals that AI warfare has become a reality.
The air force believes the AI fighters will prove more nimble and cheaper than manned jets - not to mention no risk to the pilot.
They aren’t just hoping the AI’s will prove better though - there’s plenty of evidence they already are. Experiments run by major defence companies like Lockheed Martin have shown in simulations that AI can quickly down manned pilots in a 1v1 dogfight.
not even Tom Cruise is a match for mighty AI.
It seems human creativity is no match for the algorithm. But this doesn't mean humans are being replaced anytime soon, with more advanced stealth aircraft being designed for human pilots in parallel.
