META

This might be the weirdest workplace AI story yet

Meta is building an AI version of Mark Zuckerberg that could one day speak with employees on his behalf.

The company is reportedly working on photorealistic 3D AI characters that can interact with users in real time.

One of its main focuses is now a Zuckerberg character, which is being trained on his voice, mannerisms, public comments, and views on company strategy.

Zuckerberg is also said to be involved in testing it.

The project is still early and is separate from another reported tool designed to help Zuckerberg with day-to-day CEO tasks, like pulling up information quickly.

The move is part of Meta’s wider AI push as it tries to keep up with rivals like OpenAI and Google.

This week, the company also launched Muse Spark, a smaller model built for use across its products. Meta’s shares rose 7% after the release.

In brief:

  • Meta is developing an AI version of Zuckerberg for possible employee use.

  • The project is part of a much bigger AI push across the company.

  • Some employees are uneasy about how Meta is rolling out AI internally.

Meta has already experimented with AI characters before, including celebrity-style chatbots and tools that let creators make AI versions of themselves.

But those efforts faced criticism after some users made sexualised bots, which raised safety concerns. Meta has since limited teen access to those features.

At the same time, the company is pushing employees to use more AI internally.

Some staff have been asked to take AI skills tests, which has led to concerns about possible job cuts.

Meta says the exercise is optional and meant to support training.
