Starting May 9th, AMC Theatres will screen Watch the Skies, a Swedish sci-fi film… that’s been visually dubbed into English using AI.
Originally titled UFO Sweden, the movie was filmed in Swedish, but thanks to new tech, the actors now appear to speak fluent English on screen.
The tool behind this is TrueSync, developed by a company called Flawless.
Instead of swapping out voices like traditional dubbing, it adjusts the actors’ lip movement to match the English lines they recorded themselves.
So, it still looks and sounds like their performance, just in a different language.
Flawless says this could make foreign films more appealing to people who usually avoid subtitles, especially in places where dubbing is the norm.
The company also confirms the tech follows union rules, including those set after the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, which added protections around AI use in film.
What to know:
AI adjusts lip movements to match English dialogue, keeping original performances intact.
Actors recorded their own lines in English, no voice swapping.
It could help more international films find bigger audiences.
Watch the Skies follows a teenager who believes aliens abducted her missing father.
She joins a UFO club to uncover what really happened.
The film is set to show in 100 AMC locations across the US.
