AI INITIATIVES

The UK–US AI pact is bigger than you think

Some of America’s biggest tech firms, Nvidia, Microsoft, OpenAI and Google, are putting billions into the UK’s AI sector as part of a new UK–US technology deal.

The partnership, announced during President Trump’s visit, will cover AI, quantum computing and nuclear energy.

The UK government says it will bring jobs and long-term growth.

One highlight is a new AI Growth Zone in Blyth, North East England. It will include a major data centre run by OpenAI, Nvidia and Nscale, with the UK providing the energy.

Around 5,000 jobs are expected.

Microsoft has committed £22bn for new data centres and the country’s biggest AI supercomputer.

TL;DR

  • Deal spans AI, quantum computing and nuclear energy.

  • Blyth project set to create 5,000 jobs.

  • Major pledges: Microsoft (£22bn), Google (£5bn), CoreWeave (£1.5bn), Salesforce (£1.4bn).

5,000 jobs, no big deal

Google is investing £5bn to grow its DeepMind unit and expand data centres. CoreWeave and Salesforce are adding another £2.9bn between them.

Nvidia’s Jensen Huang called it a “historic chapter” in US–UK collaboration. OpenAI’s Sam Altman said the UK’s talent and research made it the right place to expand.

So… the UK is basically hosting Stargate IRL. LOVING this for us.
