APPLE
The partnership turns sour
Apple has sued OpenAI, accusing the company of using former Apple employees to access confidential product information.
Apple claims at least two long-time employees sent themselves internal files before joining OpenAI.
It says this gave the AI company details about unreleased products, manufacturing methods and other sensitive work.
OpenAI said it has no interest in other companies’ trade secrets and is reviewing the case.
Apple also claims OpenAI asked job candidates from Apple to bring real product parts to interviews for “show and tell”.
In brief:
Apple says former staff took internal files.
OpenAI denies seeking trade secrets.
The case focuses on OpenAI’s hardware plans.
The Apple cart overturns
The lawsuit also names io Products, the hardware startup founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, along with two former Apple employees now working at OpenAI.
Apple says the information may have helped OpenAI develop its consumer hardware plans.
It is asking the court to stop OpenAI from using any confidential information and is seeking damages.
