AI JOURNALISM

The host wasn’t human, and no one noticed

Channel 4 made headlines after airing a Dispatches episode presented entirely by an AI-generated host, the first of its kind on British TV.

The episode, Will AI Take My Job?, looked at how artificial intelligence is changing work in the UK.

At the end, the “presenter” revealed they weren’t real, their face and voice were created using AI.

Channel 4 said this was a one-time experiment to explore trust and authenticity in the digital age, not a step toward replacing real journalists.

What to note:

  • Channel 4’s AI host was a one-off experiment.

  • The aim was to raise questions about trust and fake content.

  • The network says it remains committed to real journalism.

Synthetic, yet strangely sincere

The head of news said the channel will continue focusing on “fact-checked and trusted journalism,” something AI can’t do.

The move sparked debate as industries, especially entertainment, continue to wrestle with how AI is used, echoing the 2023 Hollywood strikes over using actors’ likenesses without permission.

If AI can survive British Twitter after this, it can survive anything. I SAID WHAT I SAID. - MG
