OpenAI has introduced Locked Chats, a new ChatGPT feature that lets users protect private conversations with a four-digit PIN, Face ID or Touch ID on supported devices.
Unlike Temporary Chats, which disappear from your chat history, Locked Chats can be reopened whenever you need them.
Here's how it works:
Locked conversations move into a separate section and won't appear in your regular chat history, pinned chats or search results.
When Memory is enabled, Locked Chats have their own memory, so new information shared there won't carry over into regular conversations.
Locking a chat doesn't add end-to-end encryption, change how OpenAI stores your data or affect your existing privacy settings. Resetting your PIN also permanently deletes content protected by the old PIN.

The feature is designed for conversations you'd rather keep hidden when sharing your device, whether that's personal information or plans for a surprise.
The feature is rolling out across most ChatGPT plans, including Free, Plus and Pro, although it isn't available to everyone yet.
