META
The AI pendant era is officially over
Meta has bought Limitless, the AI startup formerly known as Rewind.
Limitless made an AI pendant that recorded conversations, but it will stop selling all devices and support current customers for one more year. They will no longer collect subscription fees.
Limitless is also shutting down some features, including Rewind, the desktop tool that recorded activity and made it searchable.
The company, founded by Brett Bejcek and Dan Siroker, shifted into hardware last year with its $99 wearable pendant.
It was one of several AI gadgets competing in a market that’s becoming tougher as big players release their own devices.
What to note:
Meta is expanding its AI wearables team by bringing Limitless in-house.
Limitless is ending device sales, removing subscription fees, and keeping support running for one more year.
Users can export or delete their data as the service winds down.
Pendants had their moment
Limitless says it aligns with Meta’s goal of building AI wearables, particularly smart glasses, and will now help support that work.
Limitless noted that competition from companies like Meta and OpenAI made it harder for a small startup to keep up.
Users will be able to export or delete their data before support ends.
The company previously raised more than $33 million from investors including a16z, First Round Capital, and NEA.
RIP to another startup that tried to out-hardware Meta. - MG
