TINDER

Swipe right on AI

Can AI make dating feel human again? Tinder thinks so.

The app just revamped its user experience to appeal to a Gen Z crowd that’s tired of swiping.

CEO Spencer Rascoff says that over half the app’s users are under 30 and want dating to feel “more authentic, lower-pressure, and worth their time.” So Tinder is rebuilding the platform around new AI features.

What this looks like:

  • Virtual speed dating with live matching and 3-minute video chats

  • Astrology-mode for connections written in the stars

  • Chemistry pairings based on (optional) smart features, like ‘Camera Roll Scan’

It’s complicated

When it comes to dating, this isn’t AI’s first rodeo.

People have long been using AI to work the apps: writing bios, generating opening lines, retouching profile photos. A study from Match Group and the Kinsey Institute found that 26% of U.S. singles used AI in their dating lives last year. And 6 out of 10 people on the apps think they've already talked to a bot.

So the same technology that made dating apps feel hollow is now supposed to make them feel real.

Ironic? Yes. Possible? TBD.
