Spotify puts fake faces on notice
Spotify is adding a new label to show when an artist may be AI-generated.
From mid-September, its AI Persona badge will appear on profiles where the artist’s identity may not represent a real person.
Spotify says the change will make it clearer to listeners when they’re interacting with an AI-created artist.
The badge will appear on profiles, in search results and on tracks in playlists.
Artists with the label also won’t appear in personalised recommendations unless a user already follows them.
Here’s what you should know:
The AI Persona badge launches from mid-September.
It labels AI-created artist identities, not all AI-assisted music.
Labelled artists will have limited access to personalised recommendations.
Papers, please 🎧
The badge only applies to the artist’s identity, not whether AI was used to make the music.
Human artists can already disclose their use of AI tools through Spotify’s separate AI Credits feature.
Spotify will encourage AI artists to disclose themselves, while also reviewing accounts it believes may qualify for the label.
Finding out your Spotify crush is literally a render is nasty work 😭- MG
