Sovereign AI isn’t a theory anymore

NVIDIA is working with the Korean government and major companies to build large-scale, local AI infrastructure.

The plan includes deploying tens of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs across national cloud providers and a new National AI Computing Centre.

Startups and researchers will be able to use this hardware to train models and build new tools.

Samsung, SK Group and Hyundai are also creating AI factories that link chip making, robotics, digital twins and autonomous systems.

Samsung and SK Group each plan to run more than 50,000 GPUs, with Samsung using NVIDIA’s software to speed up chip design and production.

Hyundai will invest in AI for vehicle automation, factory simulation and robotics, backed by about $3B in joint spending.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Tens of thousands of GPUs for sovereign AI

  • New AI factories across Samsung, SK Group and Hyundai

  • National push into AI models, robotics and 6G research

NVIDIA is also partnering with telecom firms and universities on next-generation networks.

Robots are clocking in

The team is exploring ways to shift AI tasks from devices to mobile networks, which could cut battery use and reduce computing costs.

NAVER Cloud and government partners are building their own foundation models for industries including shipbuilding and public safety.

South Korea is also expanding AI talent programmes and supporting startups through NVIDIA’s Inception and national accelerator schemes.
