A man once ate an entire aeroplane. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, you read that correctly. Michel Lotito, known as "Monsieur Mangetout," literally consumed a Cessna 150 over two years by grinding it down and eating it bit by bit. Bon appetit I guess?

AI TECHNOLOGY

According to Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, AI technology will become increasingly linked with surveillance.

He spoke about how AI could soon be used to monitor things like security cameras, police body cameras, doorbell cameras, and dashboard cameras.

Ellison believes this level of surveillance will make people behave better because they know they're being watched. Did he just watch 1984?

Ellison also said that AI will supervise police officers, spotting problems and reporting them to the right people.

He also predicted that AI drones could replace police cars during high-speed chases, calling it a simple task in the era of autonomous drones.

Here are the main predictions:

  • AI could be used to monitor citizens through security and body cameras.

  • AI might track police officers, reporting any problems in real-time.

  • AI drones could take over police cars for high-speed chases.

Policing 2.0

Oracle is pushing hard into the AI space with big projects, including one with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Ellison’s reach extends beyond technology, and he briefly became the second richest man in the world this week after his Oracle stock surged.

His daughter Megan Ellison founded Annapurna Pictures in 2011, while his son David is set to become the CEO of Paramount after its merger with Skydance Media.

AI STOCKS

Intel is spinning its AI business into a new subsidiary, an announcement that led to Intels shares rising by 6%.

In a memo to employees, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger said Intel Foundry will become an independent subsidiary with its own board of directors.

The move could help revitalise Intel, which has struggled in recent years. Crucially, the subsidiary will be able to raise its own funds. Or cash in on the AI gold rush, you might say.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Shares closed 6% higher after the announcement.

  • It comes after Intel is down 45% in the last year.

  • Intel still lags behind rivals, but this might be a shot in the arm for the firm.

Can they come back though?

Intel has notoriously lagged behind its computing rivals Nvidia and AMD when it comes to AI.

The new spin-off will allow Intel to produce chips with higher efficiency, improved profitability and increased competitiveness.

Intel says its foundry business will begin producing chips with its new 18A chipmaking process for its partners, including Microsoft and Amazon, beginning next year.

The problem is, Intel just isn’t the cool kid on the block when it comes to AI.
