META

Smart glasses now, smart society later? TBD

Meta’s on a mission to lead in AI, snapping up startups, hiring from rivals, and pouring billions into infrastructure.

Mark Zuckerberg now says we’re inching closer to “superintelligence,” though he hasn’t quite defined what that means.

He did note it’ll raise new safety concerns and said Meta’s approach is about personal empowerment, not just automating work.

Despite the eye-watering costs, the company’s still beating Wall Street expectations.

What you need to know:

  • Q2 revenue: $47.52bn, beating forecasts

  • 2025 spending could hit $118bn

  • AI investment is focused on talent, infrastructure, and “personal superintelligence”

Spending like it’s the finale

In Q2 2025, Meta pulled in $47.52bn in revenue and $7.14 per share in earnings.

The company expects to spend up to $118bn this year, mostly on infrastructure and top AI talent, with reports of pay packages exceeding $200m.

Meta’s AI glasses are still in early stages, but are being positioned as essential tech.

Meanwhile, advertising remains its bread and butter, with $46.6bn in ad revenue this quarter.

WhatsApp ads are growing slowly and are expected to remain a smaller part of the business.
