Siri’s (secret) agent updates
Rumor has it, Siri is about to become an AI agent.
Apple is reportedly rebuilding her as a standalone app with deeper on-device intelligence. We don’t know specifics yet, since the full feature list is pretty hush-hush. (Seriously, she has an alias named Campo.)
That said, Bloomberg chatted with sources — who shall remain nameless — about the rollout. So we have a rough idea of Siri’s updates. Here’s a little peek at what’s in the works.
What we know:
A new standalone app would turn Siri into a systemwide AI agent
The team is developing several new chat features
Apple plans to debut the new Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8th
Testing, Testing
Officially, Apple hasn’t said much. Unofficially… details are starting to slip out.
For starters, Apple is testing Siri’s ability to use personal data (texts, notes, email) to offer more tailored responses. Whether users will be able to control how or what they share is still TBD.
They’re also upping her conversation skills with AI-powered search tools for more detailed web responses. So rather than a one-line answer to ‘Why do Golden Retrievers dramatically sigh?’ you could get:
A summary of how dogs communicate with humans
A bullet point list of common canine behavior cues
Images of side-eyeing dogs for reference
Apple News articles on pet psychology
They’re also testing a new “Ask Siri” feature, where users could highlight text in other apps and toggle it directly into a Siri conversation. From there, you can keep chatting by voice or text.
There are more updates in development. Including one confirmed change that lets Siri fully control Apple and third-party apps with voice commands.
If the rumors are true, Siri is about to have a major glow-up. Just remember… you didn’t hear it from us.
‘Ask Siri’ sounds like an advice column. Perhaps her next career move? - TL
