Siri’s new update wants ChatGPT’s crown

Apple is working on a major upgrade to Siri with a new AI-powered search tool called World Knowledge Answers, set to launch next spring.

The goal is to turn Siri into an “answer engine” that can deliver quick, accurate summaries instead of just sending users to Google.

Apple is testing Google’s Gemini AI model to power the upgrade, while also exploring Anthropic’s Claude and its own in-house systems.

The new Siri will combine text, images, video, and local data to create a more seamless search experience.

The overhaul focuses on three parts:

  • A planner to understand your request

  • A search system for web and device data

  • A summariser to give concise answers

No more “Here’s what I found…”

Apple has renewed its Google search deal, but this move signals a push to rely less on traditional search engines.

Alongside Siri’s upgrade, Apple is also working on a visual redesign, a health-focused AI agent for 2026, and potentially a chatbot-style search app.
