Siri is holding up Apple’s next big home launch
Apple is reportedly delaying its smart home display until later this year as work on its upgraded Siri assistant continues.
The device, known internally as J490, was first expected in spring 2025 and later moved to this month.
It is now said to be planned for around September, when Apple expects the new Siri to be ready.
Siri is a key part of the product.
The display is meant to act as a central smart home hub, combining AI features with personal data and home controls.
While the hardware is reportedly finished, the software is still not ready.
In brief:
The smart home display is reportedly ready on the hardware side, but Siri is holding back the launch.
The device is expected to be a key part of Apple’s wider smart home and AI plans.
September is now the reported launch target.
Built but benched
The device is expected to look like a square iPad and can either be wall-mounted or placed on a speaker-style base.
It is also said to include a 7-inch screen, a USB-C port, and a facial recognition feature that can show personalised information such as calendar events, reminders, music, and news preferences.
The delay also shows how closely Apple’s future hardware is tied to its AI progress.
The company is said to be developing other AI-based products, including smart glasses, camera-equipped AirPods, and more home devices.
Apple has not commented publicly on the reported delay.
