Silicon Valley’s printing billionaires at record speed

AI is creating wealth at a pace rarely seen before.

Huge funding rounds for firms like Anthropic, OpenAI, Safe Superintelligence, and Anysphere have pushed valuations into the trillions and minted dozens of new billionaires.

CB Insights counts 498 private AI “unicorns” worth $2.7 trillion, with 100 founded since 2023.

Anthropic is reportedly seeking a $170 billion valuation, nearly triple March’s figure, while Mira Murati’s new venture hit $12 billion just months after launch.

Anysphere doubled its valuation in weeks, likely making its 25-year-old founder a billionaire.

TL;DR:

  • 498 AI unicorns worth $2.7 trillion, 100 founded since 2023.

  • Anthropic, OpenAI, and Anysphere are driving record valuations.

  • Most AI fortunes are still illiquid, but that’s beginning to change.

This is not your dad’s dot-com

Much of this wealth is still locked in private companies, but secondary share sales and acquisitions are starting to release capital.

OpenAI is said to be exploring a $500 billion valuation in its latest sale.

The boom remains centred in the Bay Area, where San Francisco now has more billionaires than New York and record property sales over $20 million.

Tech bros are SO last season. It’s all about the AI lads now.
