ROBOTICS

Robots are becoming everyone’s new group project

Agile Robots has partnered with Google DeepMind to build smarter industrial robots, joining a growing list of robotics companies doing the same.

The Munich-based company said it will use DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics models in its machines. In return, data from those robots will help improve the Gemini models over time.

The two companies will test and roll out these robots for industrial work in areas like electronics, car manufacturing, data centres, and logistics.

Agile Robots says it has already installed more than 20,000 robotic systems around the world, giving it a solid base to grow from.

Founded in 2018, the company has raised more than $270 million from investors including SoftBank Vision Fund, Xiaomi, and Midas Group. The companies did not share financial details of the deal.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Agile Robots partnered with Google DeepMind to use Gemini Robotics models in industrial robots.

  • More robotics companies are teaming up with AI firms to build smarter autonomous machines.

  • As physical AI grows, these partnerships are becoming a bigger part of the industry.

Hardware szn

This is the latest example of robotics and AI companies teaming up.

Earlier this year, Boston Dynamics also partnered with Google DeepMind to support work on its humanoid robot, Atlas.

In March, Neura Robotics announced a partnership with Qualcomm to use its chips in future robots.

The reason behind these deals is pretty simple: building autonomous robots is difficult, and different companies bring different strengths.

Some are better at hardware, others at software, chips, or robot movement. Working together helps speed things up.

As more people in the industry point to physical AI as a major growth area, partnerships like these are likely to become more common.
