Something to make you gulp today: Vladimir Putin, Russia's longstanding leader, just dropped a bombshell. He's rallying for a massive boost in Russia's AI efforts.
Why? To shatter what he calls the unacceptable and dangerous monopoly of Western technology.
We quote his words: ”Monopolistic dominance of such foreign technology in Russia is unacceptable, dangerous, and inadmissible.”
Putin wants Russian AI.
Putin's not just talking; he's planning a national strategy to develop artificial intelligence, focusing on "Russian solutions" for reliable and safe AI systems.
He's adamant about avoiding Western technological dominance, stressing the importance of reflecting Russian values and culture in developing AI.
Putin's concern? Western AI, he claims, could be xenophobic, sidelining Russian culture and values. He fears a digital "cancellation" of Russia by Western algorithms and is pushing for AI that represents the diversity of the world's cultures.
Putin walked into the AI conference in Moscow like he owned the place, ready to flip the script on AI development.

He’s not just talking; he’s pledging big resources for Russia's AI future – think next-level supercomputers and cutting-edge AI projects. He's clear that banning AI development isn't the solution. I
Instead, he believes in global cooperation to establish security guidelines for AI once we fully realise its risks.
His take? We’re at the dawn of “a new chapter of humanity's existence.” Big words from Vlad.
Russia is desperately behind on AI, and no one is inviting them to any AI gatherings any time soon. Putin has big words, but Russia simply don’t have the tech to compete.

Here's something that might tickle your tech-savvy senses. Remember Windows Hello? The nifty little feature in Microsoft's Windows that lets you log in with a fingerprint?
Well, hold onto your hats because it turns out it's not as ironclad as once thought…
Oleg Kupreev, a security researcher, pulled a Houdini on Windows Hello using nothing more than a photo and a glue gun. That's right – he crafted a fake finger that tricked the system on multiple devices!
It's like something out of a spy movie, but it's actually happening on our computers!
Now, before you go full panic mode, Microsoft is on it. They're supposedly patching up this vulnerability ASAP…
I wonder if they’re reproducing it in the Microsoft offices…
But it does raise an eyebrow or two about the safety and privacy of biometric security systems …
It's a wake-up call, folks. While biometrics are cool and convenient, they're not infallible. It may be time to mix up our security measures a bit more. Is it back to good ol' passwords and PINs, or are you still team finger?
