⛪️ THE POPE CALLS FOR AI REGULATION!
The Pope has spoken on AI!
The big cheese called for an international AI treaty, arguing it was essential for the sake of morality.
But he also had nice things to say about AI - he acknowledged the promise AI offers and praised technological advances as a manifestation of the creativity of human intelligence.
What’s he said?
He insisted that the technological development and deployment of AI must keep foremost concerns about guaranteeing fundamental human rights, promoting peace and guarding against disinformation, discrimination and distortion.
His greatest concern is the use of AI in for weapons, which has been a frequent focus of his. He has even called traditional weapons makers “merchants of death."
That’s not all…
“The unique capacity for moral judgment and ethical decision-making is more than a complex collection of algorithms, and that capacity cannot be reduced to programming a machine,” he wrote.
Deep stuff.

🇨🇳 CHINA’S BIG AI STARTUP
China’s big AI startup is looking to raise another $200M, as the nation desperately tries to catch up with leading powers.
It’s called 01.AI (real catchy…), and is now valued at $1B!
What do they do?
They are one of several Chinese AI startups that opened public use of their large language models, alongside larger firms Meta and Alibaba.
The three are engaged in a scramble to gain users and catch up with market leader OpenAI.
One of the sources said 01.AI, officially launched by Lee Kai-fu, Google China's former chief, in July after a three-month incubation period, hit a valuation of $1 billion early in November.
01.AI hold the distinction of being the first Chinese model to top of the huggingface leaderboards - this is a public ranking of the performance and effectiveness of specific LLMs by users.
