The BBC is threatening legal action against AI search engine Perplexity, claiming it used BBC content to train its default AI model.

In a letter seen by The Financial Times, the broadcaster asked Perplexity to stop scraping its content, delete any existing data, and offer financial compensation.

Perplexity hit back, calling the claims “manipulative” and saying the BBC misunderstood how tech and copyright work.

This isn’t the first time Perplexity has come under fire.
