PayPal is turning ChatGPT into a store, and it’s wild

From 2026, people will be able to pay for shopping directly inside ChatGPT.

PayPal is adopting OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), which allows merchants to list products inside AI apps.

With OpenAI’s “Instant Checkout,” users can confirm delivery and payment without leaving the chat.

Shoppers can use their PayPal wallets, which will include buyer and seller protection and dispute support.

PayPal will also handle card payments through a separate API.

Starting next year, PayPal merchants will have their products automatically show up in ChatGPT across categories like fashion, beauty, home improvement and electronics.

Here’s what you should know:

  • People will be able to shop and pay inside ChatGPT

  • PayPal merchants will have products auto-listed in ChatGPT

  • PayPal is expanding AI commerce tools and partnerships

Pay in the chat

Merchants won’t need to add new integrations; PayPal will manage everything.

PayPal is also launching tools to help merchants show catalogues in AI apps, accept payments, and understand customer behaviour.

The company has already partnered with Perplexity and Google to bring similar AI shopping tools to their platforms.

It’s also giving all staff access to ChatGPT and encouraging engineers to use OpenAI’s coding tools.

Imagine buying beauty products because an AI hyped them. Couldn’t be me… (it will be me). - MG
