AI FUTURE
Oprah Winfrey’s special AI and the Future of Us aired recently, featuring OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, tech influencer Marques Brownlee, and FBI director Christopher Wray.
The tone was cautious, with Oprah acknowledging that AI is here to stay, and we must adapt to its impact—both good and bad.
Sam Altman explained how AI predicts outcomes by learning patterns from data.
However, many experts disagree with his claim that AI "understands" concepts.
Instead, they argue AI is simply recognising patterns without true comprehension.
Altman stressed the need for government regulation, mentioning his regular talks with officials.
Interestingly, while pushing for safety measures, OpenAI has opposed California’s SB 1047 bill, saying it could stifle innovation.
Experts like Geoffrey Hinton support the bill, arguing it’s necessary for AI safety.
Here’s what they talked about:
AI recognises patterns but doesn’t "understand" concepts.
There’s a growing call for government regulation, though views differ.
AI is driving deepfakes and other risks, raising concerns about misuse.
The FBI was there by the way
Brownlee showcased how advanced AI-generated videos have become, leading to a discussion with FBI Director Wray about the dangers of deepfakes.
Wray highlighted rising cases of AI-fueled sextortion and disinformation in elections, urging caution but not panic.
Bill Gates offered a more optimistic view, discussing AI’s potential in healthcare and education.
He spoke about AI assisting doctors and teachers but didn’t touch on issues like AI bias - avoiding the difficult conversation, clearly.
Research shows AI systems can misinterpret data, particularly from Black communities, raising concerns about fairness.
In education, Gates believes AI can offer personalised help to students, but many remain cautious.
Organisations like UNESCO are calling for more regulations to prevent misuse, including age limits and data protection.

Google has made its Gemini Live voice chat mode free for all Android users.
Previously, it was only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers, but now anyone with an Android device can access it through the Gemini app or overlay.
Similar to ChatGPT's voice chat, Gemini Live lets you ask questions out loud and even stop it while it's talking.
Copying much?
You can also choose from different voices to customise how it sounds.
To use it, just tap the waveform icon in the bottom-right corner of the app or overlay to turn on the microphone.
At the bottom of the screen, you can pause Gemini's response or end the conversation.
Here’s what you should know about this:
Free for all Android users.
Voice chat with the option to stop mid-sentence.
Currently available in English, with iOS and other languages coming soon.
Right now, Gemini Live is only available in English and on Android, but Google says it will be expanding to iOS and other languages soon.
Gemini can be cut off mid-sentence and won’t have a rage fit about it LOL.
