😮 OPENAI’S NEW CUSTOM AI!
OpenAI has announced a major new update to GPT 3.5, although the reaction has been mixed.
Developers can now fine-tune GPT 3.5 with custom data, to enhance performance on specific tasks using dedicated data.
For example, a developer could fine-tune GPT-3.5 Turbo to create customized code or proficiently summarise legal documents in German, using a data set sourced from the client’s business operations. (oh, jaaa)

Tune away, devs!
Although this opens a whole new door for devs, the reaction has been surprisingly mixed, with some claiming that results are simply better with GPT 4 (without any fine-tuning).
As well as this, the cost of using fine-tuning is significant.
The basic rate for GPT 3.5 without tuning is $0.0004 per 1000 tokens. The refined versions through fine-tuning carry a higher cost of $0.012 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.016 per 1,000 output tokens. Additionally, an initial training fee linked to data volume applies - so costs will shoot up.
It remains to be seen how useful this is then, but I’m sure some mad scientist somewhere will use it to create some crazy sh*t. And when they do, we promise to cover it here in Mindstream.

📖 BOOK RECOMMENDATION
The best books to dive deeper and get real insights on artificial intelligence.
The War on Normal People: The Truth About America's Disappearing Jobs and Why Universal Basic Income Is Our Future
Long title. Andrew Yang’s book dives deep into a future where AI and automation are running most of the basic tasks in our lives. What will happen if low-paid work no longer exists? Yang argues the answer is universal basic income. This book is a fascinating read and grows increasingly relevant as AI thrives.

🎮 NVIDIA SHOWS NEW AI GAMING TECH
Nvidia, the chip company that AI-devs can’t get enough of, has showed off some new AI tech for its gaming division.
Nvidia’s traditional market was graphics cards for consumer use - so gaming PCs. In the last 2 years though, they have pivoted as AI data centres have become their biggest source of income. Hopefully gamers will be happy to get some love then.
DLSS 3.5 (deep learning super sampling) is a new tech that adds 'ray reconstruction' - essentially AI-tuned denoising that boosts the quality of ray tracing effects on RTX graphics cards. If you’re into gaming, this should sound familiar.
Put simply, the tech uses AI to upscale games on the fly, meaning they look graphically more impressive, or run more smoothly, than they would if they were being rendered traditionally. Understand?
This new version adds ray tracing (real time lighting) in to the mix, offering an AI solution that will make lighting look even better in games.
