OPENAI

OpenAI plans to launch Orion, its next major AI model, in December.

Unlike previous releases, Orion won’t be widely available on ChatGPT right away.

Instead, OpenAI will first give early access to specific partner companies, so they can create their own products using the new model.

Microsoft, OpenAI’s main partner, is getting ready to host Orion on Azure, possibly by November.

Within OpenAI, Orion is seen as a natural step after GPT-4, though it’s not certain it will be called GPT-5.

In brief:

  • Orion will be released first to specific partners, not directly on ChatGPT.

  • Microsoft is preparing to support Orion on Azure, potentially by November.

  • Orion could be up to 100 times stronger than GPT-4, moving toward AGI goals.

VIPs only

Orion’s training used data from OpenAI’s o1 model, codenamed “Strawberry”, finishing in September.

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman hinted at Orion’s release with a mention of “winter constellations.”

This launch also aligns with OpenAI’s new for-profit direction after raining $6.6 billion in funding, but key leaders, including CTO Mira Murati, recently left the company during the transition.

Winter’s coming…and so is a mega-powerful AI model.

Do you think exclusive access for Orion’s debut is fair or frustrating?

NOTION

Notion is expanding its toolkit with a Mail app launching in early 2025.

This customisable email platform lets users create inbox views, layouts, and actions tailored to their needs.

Notion’s AI assists with tasks like organising, archiving, and drafting emails based on prompts.

Integrated with Notion’s Calendar, it can also schedule meetings and create personalised replies with quick “on-click snippets.”

Here are the key points:

  • Mail app launches in early 2025, compatible with Google and Gmail.

  • Notion AI can organise, draft, and schedule emails automatically.

  • Additional tools include a Forms app, layout options, and an updated marketplace.

Forms, mails, templates—Oh my!

The Mail app, currently in previous, will be available for both iPhone and Android and follows Notion’s acquisition of the secure email service, Skiff.

Notion has also introduced a Forms tool for gathering responses, like Google Forms, along with more layout customisation and automation for Gmail notifications.

Users can now buy and sell templates in the updated marketplace, furthering Notion’s goal to be an all-in-one productivity platform.

Notion rescuing us all from that terrible Gmail interface.
