The Wright Brothers’ first flight and the Moon landing were only 66 years apart. In just over six decades, we went from a 12-second hop off the ground to literally landing on the Moon. Humanity hit the fast-forward button on that one.

OPENAI

OpenAI recently added the Chat.com domain to its collection of high-profile digital assets.

Chat.com now redirects to ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot.

OpenAI confirmed the purchase, though it hasn’t shared how much it paid.

First registered in 1996, Chat.com is one of the web’s oldest domains.

In 2022, Dharmesh Shah, HubSpot co-founder and CTO, bought the domain for $15.5 million, making it one of the highest-recorded domain purchases.

In brief:

  • Chat.com now points to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

  • Dharmesh Shah sold Chat.com to OpenAI, reportedly for OpenAI shares.

  • No rebranding is expected, as the domain only directs to ChatGPT.

Shah revealed in March that he had sold Chat.com to an undisclosed buyer, and just recently, he confirmed OpenAI as that buyer, implying he was compensated with shares.

It’s worth noting that OpenAI has not suggested any brand change, as ChatGPT continues to be hosted on its existing platform.

Imagine buying one of the most expensive domains just for a redirect… flex much?

Do you think OpenAI will actually use Chat as a new brand name?

MICROSOFT

Microsoft has brought AI-powered upgrades to classic Windows Apps, Notepad and Paint.

These updates, available to Windows Insiders in preview, make editing text and images easier and more flexible.

In Notepad, the new Rewrite feature lets users rephrase sentences, adjust tone, and change text length with AI.

Users simply highlight text, right-click, and select Rewrite. Notepad will then suggest three alternative versions.

This feature requires a Microsoft account login as it operates via Microsoft’s cloud service.

Paint is also getting AI-based tools: Generative Fill and Generative Erase.

Generative Fill allows users to add content to an image using a prompt, while Generate Erase removes parts of an image and fills in the empty area naturally.

Generative Erase is available to all Insiders, while Generative Fill will be initially limited to those with Copilot Plus PCs.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Rewrite in Notepad offers AI options for rephrasing, tone change, and text length adjustment.

  • Generative Fill and Erase in Paint help users add or remove image content with AI.

  • These updates are currently in preview for Insiders in selected regions, including the UK and US.

AI bringing Notepad to life

These new tools join other recent improvements, like spell check and autocorrect in Notepad reflecting Microsoft’s push to make everyday apps smarter and more efficient.

Notepad and Pain are in their “main character” arc. We like it.
