OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic just got the government seal of approval

The US government has officially approved OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic as vendors, making it easier for federal agencies to access ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude through a pre-approved buying system.

This move, led by the General Services Administration (GSA), puts these tools on the Multiple Award Schedule, removing the need for months of contract negotiations.

The models were reviewed for performance and security, though contract details weren’t disclosed.

Officials say more vendors could be added later, and that this isn’t about choosing favourites, just about who was ready first.

The update follows new executive orders from President Trump, including one that says agencies must use AI tools “free from ideological bias.”

Each department will be in charge of enforcing that.

Here’s what you should know:

  • OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are now cleared to supply AI tools to US agencies.

  • Departments get faster access via a pre-approved system, skipping contract delays.

  • Use cases include fraud detection, admin automation, and public service chatbots.

Agencies like the Treasury and Office of Personnel Management are already looking at how to use these tools for fraud detection, processing patent and grant applications, and building customer service chatbots.

But leaders admit they’ll need more staff who understand how AI actually works.

Not the government soft-launching their own AI toolset like it’s an app update.
