OPENAI
Big changes are happening at OpenAI.
Co-founder John Schulman has left to join Anthropic, makers of the Claude chatbot and a key rival.
He’s keen to get new perspectives and focus on AI alignment research, which ensures AI behaves as intended.
Schulman posted on X, explaining his desire to work more hands-on AI technology at Anthropic.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s president and co-founder Greg Brockman is taking a break until the end of the year to recharge after nine years with the company.
Another key figure, Peter Deng, who joined OpenAI from Meta, Uber and Airtable has also recently left, signifying significant turbulence at the board room level.
Here’s what you should know:
Schulman is shifting to Anthropic to deepen his work on AI alignment.
Greg Brockman is on extended leave, and Peter Deng has departed from OpenAI.
He was crucial in developing ChatGPT, leading the reinforcement training team at OpenAI.
Changing course
Schulman started at OpenAI after earning his PhD at UC Berkley and played a major role in creating ChatGPT, heading the reinforcement training team.
Despite his leaving, he stresses that his decision isn’t due to dissatisfaction with OpenAI’s commitment to AI safety but is a personal choice for the next phase of his career.
With Schulman's exit, only three of OpenAI’s 11 original founders remain: CEO Sam Altman, Brockman, and Wojciech Zaremba, who leads language and code generation.
So, anyone wondering what’s happening at House OpenAI?

AI FOR SALES
Outbound prospecting has become a lot harder…
Spam filters are smarter, templates don’t resonate, and most ‘AI-generated’ emails are awful.
Perlon AI is the first company to build custom LLMs to send hyper-personalised prospecting emails at scale.
They work with companies like Revolut, LVMH and Jets.com and their emails generate 5x the replies of templates.

ELON MUSK
Elon Musk has filed a new lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, in California, accusing them of deceit and betrayal.
Musk claims he was manipulated into co-founding OpenAI under the guise of a non-profit mission, only for the company to become profit-driven.
OpenAI strongly denies these allegations, stating Musk supported the shift towards profitability.
They argue that Musk's claims are unfounded and portray him as a disgruntled former partner.
The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI broke their original agreement to develop AI for public benefit and accuses them of federal racketeering and wire fraud.
Musk's lawyer describes this case as more forceful than the previous one, seeking substantial financial restitution.
Here’s what we know:
OpenAI betrayed its non-profit mission, deceived Musk, and used his contributions for profit.
OpenAI denies wrongdoing, claiming Musk previously supported the for-profit model.
The new lawsuit includes charges of racketeering and wire fraud, aiming for significant financial damages.
The battle of ethics
Musk's rivalry with OpenAI continues as he tries to compete with his AI venture, xAI, which has struggled compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT so far.
Additionally, his chatbot has faced criticism for spreading misinformation, prompting US secretaries of state to demand changes.
He never gets bored, that’s for sure.
