Nvidia said “we’re in”, just not that in

Nvidia plans to make a major investment in OpenAI, which CEO Jensen Huang said would likely be the company’s largest to date.

He rejected claims that he was unhappy with the ChatGPT maker.

Nvidia previously said it could invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, though reports suggested the deal slowed after internal concerns were raised.

Huang has since clarified that the $100 billion figure was never final or binding.

Speaking in Taipei, Huang said Nvidia remains fully committed to investing in OpenAI and confirmed it will take part in the current funding led by CEO Sam Altman.

He added that while the investment will be significant, it will be well below $100 billion, with the final figure to be announced by OpenAI.

In brief:

  • Nvidia plans a large investment in OpenAI, but not at the $100bn level

  • OpenAI is raising major funding as competition in AI intensifies

  • Amazon and other big tech firms are in talks to join the round
