NVIDIA
Nvidia’s new “Blackwell” B200 AI chips are facing delays, with production pushed back by at least three months due to a late-discovered design flaw.
This comes from The Information and has been confirmed by a Microsoft employee, among other sources.
The B200 chips are the successors to Nvidia’s highly popular H100 chips, which have been crucial in driving AI in the cloud and have made Nvidia plans to increase production of the B200 chips in the second half of the year, as stated by Nvidia spokesperson John Rizzo.
The company is not providing details on the specifics of the delay.
Here’s what you should know:
A design issue was found late, causing a delay in production.
Large shipments are expected in the first quarter of next year.
Microsoft, Google, and Meta have ordered tens of billions of dollars worth of chips.
Hit the Snooze button
Nvidia is currently running new tests with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, which means large shipments of the Blackwell chips are expected in the first quarter of next year.
Microsoft, Google, and Meta have already placed orders worth tens of billions of dollars for these chips.
This delay comes after Nvidia announced that "Blackwell-based products will be available from partners" starting in 2024.
The B200 chips were set to begin a new annual cycle of AI chip releases from Nvidia, as competitors like AMD are also developing their own AI chips.
The investors must be thrilled…

META
Meta is reportedly working to bring celebrity voices like Judi Dench, Keegan-Michael Key, and Awkwafina to its AI offerings, according to Bloomberg.
These voices are expected to make their debut at Meta's Connect conference in September, adding a touch of star power to their digital assistant, "MetaAI."
The New York Times reports that Meta is in talks with top Hollywood talent agencies to secure these celebrity voices, potentially paying millions of dollars for their participation.
These voices would be integrated across Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and even Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Here’s what’s happening
Meta is collaborating with famous actors to incorporate their voices into its AI, aiming to create more engaging and natural user experiences.
These celebrity voices will be available on Meta's social media platforms and devices like Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Celebrities are likely to receive substantial payments for their involvement, with temporary contracts that offer the option for renewal based on mutual agreement.
Lights, camera, AI
While this move might remind some of Waze's celebrity voice directions or the recently discontinued celebrity AI chatbots from Meta, this new effort seems more sophisticated.
Generative AI has significantly improved voice mimicry, allowing for more authentic and engaging interactions.
If you've ever fancied having Dame Judi Dench narrate your journey or Awkwafina spice up your daily updates, Meta's celebrity voices might just make that a reality.
The integration of such voices could enhance the digital experience, making it more personalised and entertaining.
While there are no confirmations yet, anticipation is palpable as Meta prepares to unveil these developments.
It’s like early 2000s sat navs all over again!
