OPENAI
OpenAI has launched NextGenAI, a consortium of 15 research institutions working to advance research and education using AI.
With $50M in funding for grants, computing resources, and API access, the initiative aims to speed up scientific breakthroughs and prepare students for an AI-driven world.
AI takes over campus
By bringing together institutions from the U.S. and Europe, NextGenAI promotes collaboration beyond individual universities.
The goal is to drive innovation while ensuring researchers, educators, and students have the tools to shape AI’s future.
Here are the key areas of focus:
Accelerating Research: Institutions like Harvard and The Ohio State University are using AI to improve medical diagnostics, manufacturing, energy, and agriculture.
AI in Education: MIT and Howard University are integrating AI into teaching, research, and university operations, helping students gain hands-on experience.
Digitising Knowledge: Oxford’s Bodleian Library and Boston Public Library are using AI to transcribe historical texts and improve access to information.
NextGenAI also strengthens the link between academia and industry, ensuring AI benefits hospitals, classrooms, and public institutions.
This builds on OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu launch in 2024, which introduced AI-powered tools for universities.
The institutions involved:
Harvard & Boston Children’s Hospital: Researchers are using AI to speed up rare disease diagnoses and improve medical decision-making.
Duke University: Scientists are identifying where AI can have the biggest impact on research.
Texas A&M: A new Generative AI Literacy Initiative is training students to use AI responsibly.
University of Oxford: AI is being used for research, education, and university operations, including digitising historical texts.
With this initiative, OpenAI is investing in the future of AI research, education, and accessibility, one breakthrough at a time.
Now I wanna go back to school!
