Netflix has started testing a new AI-powered search tool using OpenAI technology.
It lets users look for shows with more specific prompts, even based on mood, instead of just typing in genres or actor names.
Right now, it’s only available on iOS for some users in Australia and New Zealand.
Netflix confirmed the feature will start rolling out in the US over the coming months, but there’s no word yet on when (or if) it’ll arrive on other platforms.
The feature is opt-in, and Netflix says it’s still in the “learn and listen” phase of testing. OpenAI hasn’t commented yet.
What to know:
The test is iOS-only for now and limited to Australia and New Zealand.
You can search by mood or detailed prompts, not just titles or actors.
US rollout is coming soon, but no wider release has been confirmed.
Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters previously mentioned the company’s long-standing use of AI in recommendations.
He also said they’re exploring new ways to use tech to improve both the viewing experience and how stories are told.
Netflix heard us screaming into the void and gave us a search bar.
