No, I haven’t got a clue what is going on either!
Yesterday, Sam Altman was in talks to RETURN as CEO at OpenAI just 2 days after he was sacked.
But today, it has come out that Microsoft has hired him to lead up a brand new AI team, along with former OpenAI president Greg Brockman.
Meanwhile, former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear is the new head at OpenAI, after being offered the role late on Sunday.
This tale is getting more epic than Lord of the Rings!
Microsoft’s intervention?
Supposedly, Microsoft, who owns 49% of OpenAI, was completely blindsided and furious at Altman’s sacking.
After failing to restore him at OpenAI, it looks like they’ve taken it into their own hands by handing him a top role at the tech giant.

Nadella to the rescue
Satya Nadella was reportedly a big fan of Altman, and not at all happy at his sudden ousting. Now, he’s come to the rescue with the new role.

There’s a new kid on the AI block - Kyutai!
The new startup is a French AI startup, founded by French billionaire and Iliad CEO Xavier Niel is promising to keep everything open source.
Kyutai is being backed with a massive $330M fund.
The new kid on the block
Kyutai will work on foundational models, meaning they will need some serious computing power.
The good news is that Scaleway, the cloud division of Iliad, recently acquired a thousand Nvidia H100 GPUs. These top-of-the-line GPUs are essential for inference and model training and will be available at cost for Kyutai.
Kyutai is also promising to publish scientific papers - something that has become highly unusual for big tech companies.
They are hoping this will draw in the best scientists to want to work for them.
