MICROSOFT
Microsoft has a history of choosing product names that sometimes cause confusion, like "Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Professional Edition" (seriously, that existed).
Over the years, unsurprisingly, they've had to change or simplify many of these names.
For example, "Windows Phone 7 Series" was shortened to "Windows Phone 7," and the "Windows Store" was renamed to the "Microsoft Store."
Now, Microsoft is rebranding its AI tools under the Microsoft 365 name.
The new rebrand, means "Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365," will now be called "Microsoft 365 Copilot."
This change is part of a bigger effort to promote the paid version of their AI tools.
Even specific tools within Microsoft 365 are getting new names.
For example, "Copilot in Word" will soon be known as "Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word."
Also, the chat feature within Microsoft 365 Copilot is getting a new name: "Business Chat."
Here’s what you should know:
Microsoft is grouping all its AI tools under the Microsoft 365 brand.
Tools like "Copilot in Word" will be renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word."
The chat feature in Microsoft 365 Copilot will now be called "Business Chat."
New names, same old games
This rebranding shows how Microsoft is trying to bring all its AI tools under one branch.
Different teams have been working on their own versions of Copilot, and this change helps unify them.
These updates mainly affect Microsoft's business-focused AI tools.
The consumer side of Microsoft's AI, led by AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, isn't changing.
These changes will be announced next month, with more updates expected for Microsoft 365 Copilot in the autumn.
Yes, they keep changing the names, but we should trust the process.
Do you think Microsoft’s rebrand will make things clearer or just add more confusion? |
