META

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has added new AI-powered features to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

The update, available to early access users in the US and Canada, includes tools like real-time language translation and ongoing conversations with Meta’s chatbot.

The new firmware, version 11, allows users to talk to Meta AI continuously without saying, “Hey, Meta,” every time.

The chatbot can be interrupted by responding to follow-up questions and switching topics as needed.

Here are its key features:

  • Ongoing Conversations: Talk naturally to Meta AI without repeating wake words.

  • Live Video Help: Get real-time feedback from Meta AI about what you’re seeing.

  • Language Translation: Conversations in Spanish, French, or Italian are translated into English, with audio played through the glasses and transcripts sent to your phone.

  • Song Identification: Say, “Hey, Meta, Shazam this song” to identify music instantly.

Glasses that translate on the go

These updates, first announced at Meta’s Connect event in September, highlight the company’s lead in wearable AI tech.

Meta is competing with Google and OpenAI to bring real-time AI to devices like smart glasses.

Meta also unveiled its next-generation AR glasses, Orion.

The glasses, developed over five years, aim to blend digital information with the real world.

The company says people shouldn’t have to choose between staying connected to their devices and the physical world.

Orion is currently being tested by Meta employees and select external users.

The race to integrate AI into everyday gadgets is intensifying.

While Meta has released real-time AI features on wearables, others, like Google, are still working on similar innovations.

Imagine asking your glasses for help with karaoke lyrics. I know I would.
