META
Meta has announced Project Waterworth, a subsea cable project stretching over 50,000 km - longer than the Earth’s circumference.
This will be the world’s longest subsea cable project, connecting the U.S., India, Brazil, South Africa, and other key regions.
The goal is to strengthen global internet infrastructure, support digital economies, and improve connectivity for businesses and individuals alike.
So what makes it different?
The project will open three new oceanic corridors, expanding global connectivity for AI, cloud computing, and digital services.
With 24 fibre pairs - compared to the usual 8-16 - it will offer higher speeds and greater reliability.
Advanced routing and burial techniques will protect cables from damage in high-risk areas like shallow coastal waters.
Longer than Earth? That’s kinda flexy
Subsea cables already carry over 95% of global internet traffic, powering communication, streaming, and online transactions.
Meta has worked on 20+ subsea cable projects, strengthening the infrastructure needed for AI and next-gen digital services.
50,000 km of cables just to keep my TikTok loading at 2 am. Thanks, Zuck.
