AI TECH

Ever wondered what your future self might say if you could have a chat?

Now, researchers from MIT have made that possible with their AI tool, Future You.

This AI is designed to help people feel more connected to their future selves and make better long-term choices.

Future You creates a text-based simulation of you at age 60.

It uses the details you provide to build a realistic version of your future self, who can give advice and share insights based on your current goals.

After a 30-minute conversation with Future You, people said they felt less anxious and more in touch with their future. Try it!

Here are some results from the study:

  • Users felt closer to their future selves, which helped them think more clearly about their decisions.

  • People felt less worried about the future after using Future You.

  • The AI made the interaction feel natural and sincere.

Spooky but also refreshing

The AI tool uses advanced language models to make these future scenarios feel real and detailed, going beyond older methods like writing letters to your future self.

The goal is to turn vague ideas about the future into something you can actually relate to and think about.

“This isn’t a time machine, but it’s a good start,” says Pat Pataranutaporn, one of the lead researchers from MIT.

The idea is to use AI to help people see how their choices today might shape their tomorrow.

The team knows that making these future versions feel too real could have risks.

They remind users that this is just one possible future and that they have the power to change their own path.

Future You is meant to guide, not predict.

Going forward, the researchers plan to explore other ways to use this AI, like helping people think about career paths or how their choices impact the environment.

Their aim is to offer insights that help people grow and see their futures in a new light, without becoming too reliant on the tool.

BOOST YOUR SALES

Complex deals are often affected by office politics, hierarchies, egos, emotions, attitudes, and power dynamics.

Using Substrata can significantly increase the chances of winning B2B deals across many industries and categories.

Substrata has developed dozens of specialized AI models to help dealmakers navigate the subtle "social dance" between sellers and prospects:

  • Analyze any prospect's LinkedIn profile to extract their natural personality structure and tendencies.

  • Monitor your prospects' fluctuating levels of interest (Signals).

  • Analyze any thread or message to determine real sentiment and relative balance of power.

  • Simulate message drafts before sending them to eliminate potential risks or issues.

  • Optimize responses, follow-ups, and more.

  • Track your and your team's ongoing performance.

Substrata uses Social Signal Processing (SSP), which is a specialized AI domain that deals with the detection, analysis, and synthesis of behavioural data from digitally mediated human-human interactions, such as B2B deal-making, sales, and HR interviews.

Weird AI

Holy Father, who art on the web?

When theologian Jonas Simmerlein asked ChatGPT to write a sermon for a Bavarian church service, it came up with lines like “Now is the time,” and even crafted psalms and prayers.

An AI avatar delivered these messages to over 300 people at a convention, but the crowd's reaction was mostly awkward laughter. With its deadpan delivery and lack of empathy, the AI left churchgoers unimpressed.

Some folks think this whole thing was just a clever stunt to drum up attention for AI; others were calling it pure nonsense.

GOVERNMENT AI

Police in East Palo Alto have started using Draft One, an AI tool developed by Axon, to help officers write reports.

Officer Wendy Venegas recently used it to turn body camera audio into a detailed report after an incident with a minor.

Draft One is meant to make writing reports quicker and more accurate, but its use has sparked debate about AI’s role in the justice system.

East Palo Alto, along with other California cities like Campbell and Fresno, are using Draft One to help with the workload of police departments that lack enough staff.

Axon says it saves officers time, but some studies disagree, showing the tool doesn't always work faster.

Critics also worry that AI-generated reports might not be reliable or fair.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Draft One turns body camera audio into written reports, aiming to save time and improve accuracy.

  • There are concerns about bias and mistakes in AI-generated reports that could affect fairness in the justice system.

  • Officers are required to check and confirm the accuracy of AI-generated reports to keep the process reliable.

Efficiency on patrol

Draft One encourages officers to speak more during incidents, which helps the AI create a more detailed report.

This might lead to more transparency, but some fear it could also be used to shape how evidence is seen.

The American Civil Liberties Union has pointed out that officers might use narration to control the way events are recorded.

East Palo Alto pays about $40,000 a year for Draft One, which runs on technology like ChatGPT and keeps data secure.

Axon stresses that officers must carefully review these AI reports to make sure they’re correct before they’re submitted.

While some experts have doubts about using AI in report writing, they admit that tools like Draft One could help law enforcement deal with staffing shortages.

If the tool really does save time and boost accuracy, it could be a valuable asset—so long as it’s carefully checked for mistakes.

What seems to be the officer, problem?
